Install FolderFetch, run your first scan, and maintain a local document library.

Last updated: 2026-09-15

Before you begin

FolderFetch is a browser extension for collecting documents that you are allowed to access. It does not bypass sign-ins, CAPTCHAs, paywalls, robots controls, or other website restrictions.

Chrome and Edge store listings are being prepared. During local testing, install the unpacked development build from your browser's extensions page.

Run your first scan

  1. Open a website that contains the documents you need.
  2. Open FolderFetch and choose Scan this page, Select region, or Select links.
  3. Set the scan depth. Start small on an unfamiliar website.
  4. Review the discovered resource tree, search by name, and filter by file type.
  5. Select the files you want and review the download confirmation.
  6. Start the download and keep the browser open until the task completes.

Choose the right scope

  • Scan this page starts from the current page and follows eligible links to the selected depth.
  • Select region lets you choose a visible section of the page, then grow or shrink the selected area.
  • Select links lets you approve individual links and optionally select similar links.

FolderFetch skips common header, navigation, and footer links by default. You can change this for sites where documents are intentionally listed in those areas.

Downloads and folders

Downloads are written through the browser's download system. FolderFetch builds relative folders from the source website's structure while sanitizing unsafe or unsupported file names.

Before downloading, you can review known file types, sizes when available, and unverified candidates. Files that need an unsupported sign-in or fail safety validation are reported instead of silently downloaded.

Saved sources and change checks

Save a source when you expect to revisit it. A saved source keeps a local baseline that can be compared with a later scan. Review added, changed, and removed items before syncing. Incremental sync downloads only approved new or changed files.

Local library and organization

FolderFetch can generate a local library.html index for browsing and searching your collection. The original website structure and your accepted organization can remain available as separate views.

Local rule-based organization works without a hosted AI allowance. When hosted AI is enabled, review the information shown in the confirmation step and approve the proposed structure before accepting it.

Troubleshooting

A scan finds fewer files than expected

  • Increase depth one level at a time.
  • Try Select region or Select links on JavaScript-heavy pages.
  • Check whether the documents require an account or are loaded inside an unsupported viewer.
  • Review the unverified candidates section.

Downloads fail or stop

  • Keep the browser running and confirm that downloads are allowed for the site.
  • Use Retry failed after the task settles.
  • Check available disk space and operating-system file-name limits.
  • Export the privacy-safe diagnostic JSON before contacting support.

My saved data is missing on another browser

Source snapshots, local history, downloads, and local libraries do not currently sync through the cloud. Signing in restores your account and eligible purchases, not local collection data.
